When I finished the movie, the first thing I thought was I cannot believe this wasn't directed by a woman, because it's a very feminine movie almost until the end. And that empathy and community is what'd drive me into a horror movie, not a hypermasculine thing. And I knew that thing was a cult, I knew what Dani did was horrible, but I had trouble seeing Christian as sexually assaulted until much later! And I didn't even notice the OVERT racism (haha thanks privilege. I'm completely, passionately against fascism. I don't even joke with the words anymore, to me it's really off limits. And /I fell for this movie's cult. Kudos to the director. This movie is really amazing, being subtle while screaming its message. I'm also feeling tricked (although better to be tricked by a fiction cult that makes you think, hm.

This movie was the most disturbing horror movie i've ever seen. Hereditary is one of my favourite horror films. The acting, the scares, the list goes on. It was the first Ive seen like it However, Midsommar took me to a place. It was emotionally exhausting, terrifying, yet hugely attractive to the eye in the way it is filmed and how it is in daylight mostly throughout the film. Ari Astar is an INCREDIBLE director.

Firstly, this is a great video. Secondly, I am 100% as vulnerable to manipulation as anyone else, but, thirdly, I honest to God never found the cult appealing for one second. I already felt sick by the time i saw dani's sister with the tube taped to her mouth,it felt so ominous. I liked the alternate ending where it turns out her boyfriend had a brother high up in the military and hearing about the disappearances uses satellite imagery to discover what happened and then sends a stealth Apache helicopter drone and scorches the earth of the entire commune leaving nothing left and killing everyone. I mean everyone. Then he quips, Ragnarock bitches and the Swedes pay no mind because they are such a progressive folk. The End.

Peter dies when he dolphin dives out the window, the light that enters his body represents paimon and Charlie entering him which is why whenever someone becomes possessed they do the tongue clicks. I felt like I was insane when everybody talking about the film stated just how good it was for Dani to be indoctrinated. While personally I dont remember the book in the film, your comparisons of the cult and its leaders to fascistic demagogues really put my unsettled feelings into perspective. At the same time, you take the time to show how others fell into the veil of the cult as well. Just gonna state it plainly. Outstanding vid.

I disagree with your interpretation of the ending. The 'village' want both Dani and her bf for their breeding potential and nothing more. They brought them there with the conclusion predetermined - the coincidence of her need for family is incidental. 'Traditional family values' have been powerful forces of good and evil in history; the development of societies but also the creation of the most effective criminal structures and cults. They can give her what she wants but they must nurture her more because she must produce the child. There is nothing to suggest they would not dispose of her once her breeding potential has been exhausted.

I love how they visualized Danis moment of ecstasy or out of body experience at 3:45. Midsommar shirt. Personnaly, I think that the main themes were loneliness. We can clearly see how much each caracter is self absorbed in his own world. The american students come from the individualist world of the I and the Me first. On the other side, the cult is all about us. The main caracter lose her self and sense of identity as she is progressively depaterned by the cult. They use drug to make her more vulnerable and suggestible. They lovebomb her and mirror all her emotion so they become a reflection of herself. At the end she becomes part of the madness of the us of the cult. Anyway it was a master piece.

The swedish word for black is svart, but in the movie they use the word mörk which is translated to dark.
